Frequently Asked Questions

(S&E Positions)

1. Where is Robins AFB?

Warner Robins is the home of Robins AFB, which is located in middle Georgia, about 20 miles south of Macon and 100 miles south of Atlanta, about 10 miles east of I-75 at exit 146.

2. What is the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center?

WRALC is one of three Air Logistics Centers in the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), which has headquarters at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Our mission is to provide combat capabilities for the warfighter through engineering support and maintenance of a variety of aircraft and weapon systems. The base public website is www.Robins.AF.mil.

2. Do I have to enlist in the Air Force?

No. These are civilian, federal government jobs with the Department of Defense (DOD).

3. I am authorized to work in the US - can I work for WRALC?

No. US citizenship is required.

4. How do I get a security clearance?

All engineers at Robins AFB must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance. This is a condition of employment. Security clearance is processed by a separate federal agency. New employees are required to submit form SF-86 which will initiate the security investigation. The clearance process may take six months or more, during which time the employee has an interim clearance which provides limited access to certain work areas. For more information, go to www.OPM.gov or click here.

5. How many engineers are employed at WRALC?

There are almost 1400 scientists and engineers (S&E) at Robins AFB. In order, the most common disciplines are: electrical and computer (series 855), mechanical (series 830), and aerospace (series 861) engineering, and computer science (series 1550).

6. What jobs are open now?

There are current openings for electrical/computer, mechanical, and aerospace engineers at the entry-level and positions requiring experience.  See the main engineering page for more information. See the Computer Science page for those positions.

7. What education is required?

We only actively recruit professional engineering (not engineering technology) degrees from ABET-accredited professional engineering programs. We only actively recruit Computer Science (not IS, etc.) degrees for those positions. Related degrees may be considered eligible with additional coursework, certification, and experience. See each announcement for more information.

8. How do I apply?

Application process is different for entry-level and experienced positions. See the main engineering page for more information.

9. I've heard it is difficult to get a job at Robins AFB. What is the secret?

There is no secret. If you are qualified, simply read and follow the application instructions carefully. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Each announcement includes a different application process. You must apply separately to each announcement, except for entry-level recruiting (typically on campus). Be sure to include transcript and other required documentation. Be sure your resume validates your self-assessment (answers to the experience questions or your KSA narrative). If your resume does not support your self-assessment, you may be eliminated from consideration. Here are some more tips.

10. What are KSAs?

Some announcements require a narrative statement which addresses specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) required for the job. These will be listed in the announcement, under "qualifications". The resume should support the KSA responses, too.

11. What is Veteran Preference?

Federal law provides preference for certain military veterans in federal employment. Applicants must be qualified for the position before preference is applied. The applicant must include a copy of the separation notice, form DD214 (member 4 copy), in order to be granted five-point preference. Veterans with a 30% or more compensable disability may qualify for ten-point preference but must include a recent VA letter with the application. Again, preference will only be applied to otherwise qualified applicants who include all appropriate documentation with the application. For more information on veteran preference, go to www.OPM.gov.

12. Where are the announcements?

Entry-level positions may not be announced and recruiting is usually conducted on campus, though resumes may be accepted by email. All other positions are announced on www.USAJOBS.gov. For a list of specific announcements for Robins AFB, click on job search. Be sure to read and follow the instructions for each announcement carefully.

13. Which announcements are specifically for Robins AFB?

Only announcement numbers that begin with "WR" are filled locally by the Robins AFB employment office. All others, such as "DR", are Command-wide openings (all locations in the Major Command) which may not be filled at Robins AFB.

14. If I am not selected, will my application stay on file?

An applicant file is only maintained for entry-level positions. For all other announcements, only applications made for each specific announcement will be considered for those positions. Again, you will only be considered for those positions where you specifically applied. You must apply separately to each announcement to be considered for that announcement.
