GC&SU Graduate Co-Op Program Graduate Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) Purpose: To recruit high quality employees into the Federal Service, while providing exposure to public service and promoting education. Eligibility Criteria: Student must be currently enrolled in Georgia College & State University as a graduate student pursuing a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. Must be at least 18 years of age, U.S. Citizen or a National. Types of Positions: YP-0299-01, Student Trainee (Human Resources) position. Anticipated starting salary for new hires would be $25,000 - $35,000 per year. Civilian Human Resource specialties include Internal and External Staffing, Employee and Labor Relations, Classification, Data Management and Force Training. Work Schedules: Full-time, but work schedule must not interfere with the student's academic schedule. A part-time schedule is an option under SCEP procedures. Tuition Assistance: Is available (maximum of $3500 per year) to program participants providing there is funding available. Participation requires completion of a service period. Qualifications Required: Student is evaluated by the OPM qualifications standards for education and past work experience. Applicable Benefits: Eligible for retirement, health benefits and life insurance dependent on proposed work/study schedule. Student earns annual and sick leave and is eligible for holidays. Conversion Criteria: Students successfully completing the MPA program with a 3.0 GPA are eligible for conversion based on completion of education, at least 640 hours of work experience, and performance. Conversion must take place within 120 days of completion of program requirements. Upon conversion, students will be placed in a position with a target level of YA-02. Students must complete the requirements for conversion within 36 months after initial appointment into the SCEP program. Salary determination at conversion will be based on qualifications and related market factors. That rate is currently around $43,000 per year, but is subject to change. While conversion to permanent status is not a guarantee, every effort will be made to place students successfully completing the program.
